Exploding Alphabets 2/2

EXPLODING ALPHABETS 2/2

Thurs 2nd February – Morden Tower – 8pm
£1 entry

Exploding Alphabets invites you to accompany Newcastle’s finest literary bodies this Thursday, the 2nd of February, to witness a unique poetic experiment.

EA 2/2 is sure to be one of the most involving and enrapturing nights Newcastle’s poetry scene has been party to, as three of this city’s finest musicians prepare a live, improvised and entirely spontaneous score to accompany the performers. EA presents an all-new trio of musicians featuring one of this country’s finest young flautists Tom Oakes, experimental multi-instrumentalist David JC de la Haye and truly breathtaking violinist Shona Mooney (2006 BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician Of The Year).

Given an entirely free reign to create an ad hoc soundscape throughout the evening’s poetry performances, the trio will draw upon spoken word and the atmospheric history of 13th century Morden Tower to create an aural backdrop that is sure to provide one of the most memorable collusions of poetry and music in recent times.

Gaining a rapid word-of-mouth reputation for being the occasion for all things lyrical and occult, Exploding Alphabets is a tempestuous blend of word and performance, action and sound, in which every member of the audience is a participant, be it as a performer or engaged spectator. The event welcomes all performers, both new and old, and stipulates only that all work must be new and unheard. Simply turn up early to be given your opportunity to read.

EA 2/2 starts at eight o’clock sharp and costs £1, with free refreshments included. Please feel free to bring homemade books, zines and cultural artefacts to sell on the night.

We look forward to seeing you there
