EA 6/6

Tues 6th June - Exploding Alphabets 6/6

Morden Tower - 8pm - £1 with refreshments provided

Journeys

In memory and expectation of EA members lost and found, near and distant, Exploding Alphabets presents a night of Journeys. Expect psychogeographic tours of the Tower, nostalgic throwbacks to birthplaces, the mapping of maps, site-specific performance pieces from renowned artists, dramatised leavings and premeditated arrivals. And really cheap wine.

As always, the floor is open. EA loves only new work, and prefers work based around our theme with the aim of presented an unstructured night of structured thought. Poets, performers, mountebanks and charlatans all welcome, as are attentive and engaged audiences.

EA 6/6 takes place, as always, in Morden Tower; the city's favourite squarecircle. Maps and pics can be found in the column to the right. It is situated on Back Stowell street in the alley behind Chinatown. The entrance is by the side of Rosie's bar, near the big arch. Spread the word.

It costs one shiny pound and refreshments are provided. Door open from 7.30pm and we start promptly at 8pm.

Banoffee Pie performance.

Exploding Alphabets is priviledged to be performing at this month's Banoffee Pie, Newcastle's premier event for cultural food and sticky dessert. Naturally, we'd like to invite anyone who would like to perform under the EA banner to come and share the stage and communicate something. The line-up is great, the audience is always wonderful and it's a great chance to spread the EA gospel. Anyone wishing to read should email explodingalphabets@hotmail.co.uk, and then turn up at 7.30pm at The Cumberland Arms, Byker. Or just turn up and watch. Or maybe turn up with the intention of watching but then bring a cheeky poem to read.

EA 5/5

"I CAN FEEL THE HEAT closing in, feel them out there making their moves, setting up their devil doll stool pigeons, crooning over my spoon and dropper I throw away at Washington Square Station, vault a turnstile and two flights down the iron stairs, catch an uptown A train..." Opening words of William S. Burrough's Naked Lunch

Exploding Alphabets - Friday 5th May - 8pm - Morden Tower

EA 5/5 rounds upon HEAT as a subject matter and invites all artists, poets and vagabonds to think heatwards for inspiration.

There may or may not be cocktails. There may or may not be scores of original, pressured and blistering works. There may or may not be oiled bodybuilders flown in from Miami.

Buoyed by the recent temperate evenings and warm spring (as well as the imminent emigration of EA members to Latin America) Exploding Alphabets presents an evening of themed poetry, song and performance that is sure to doom the recent pleasant weather to an abrupt end. Still, if EA isn't about the creation of an atmosphere, literal or otherwise, then it doesn't exist.

All are welcome to observe or participate. All work must be new and unperformed and all must be prepared to be part of an audience that does things, an audience that thinks. Exploding Alphabets is as much of a creative process as it is an event.

EA 5/5 costs £1.
EA starts at 8pm sharp.
EA is at Morden Tower on Back Stowell Street.
EA can be contacted at explodingalphabets@hotmail.co.uk. Mail for directions/friends/complaints.
